COVER BAND

(words & music: Chris Leib © 2023 Busker Tunes Music)

I don't have an original thought

I don't have any idea

But I heard this amazing song

Radio said it's for real

Heard it on some commercial

Can't remember what it was

Think I'll learn how to play it

Form a band, get in on the buzz

Get a hot girl singer in killer jeans

Watch all the old men shout and scream

I'm in a (cover band)   I play all the time

Only play a tune that isn't mine

(cover band)   What can I say?

You've heard it all before anyway.

We play to crowds that really love us

They know the words to all the songs

Are their cheers really for us?

We do the work but something's wrong

Do they like me and the band

or was it that Journey tune?

They sing the along but do they hear us

or do they hear Motley Crue?

Am I doing something that's valid and real

Gotta play some Meatloaf or they won't squeal

BABY BLUE

(by Peter Ham © 1971 Kobalt Music Pub America)

Guess I got what I deserved

Kept you waiting there too long, my love

All that time without a word

Didn’t know you’d think that I’d forget

 Or I’d regret

The special love I had for you, my Baby Blue

All the days became so long

Do you really think I’d do you wrong?

Thought you’d realize that I would know

I would show

That special love I have for you, my Baby Blue

What can I do, what can I say?

Except I want you by my side

How can I show you? What can I say?

Don’t you know the times I tried?

Guess that’s all I have to say

Except the feeling just grows stronger every day

Just one thing before I go

Take good care baby, let me know

Let it grow

The special love you had for me, Dixie Dear

FEEL A WHOLE LOT BETTER

(by Gene Clark © 1965 BMG Bumblebee)

The reason why, oh I can’t say

I had to let you go babe, and right away

After what you did, I can’t stay on

And I’ll probably feel a whole lot better

When you’re gone

Baby for a long time

You had me believe

That your love is all mine

And that’s the way it should be

 But I didn’t know

That you were putting me on

And I’ll probably feel a whole lot better

 When you’re gone

Now I got to say

That it’s not like before

 And I’m not gonna play

Your games anymore

 After what you did,

I can’t stay on

And I’ll probably feel a whole lot better

when you’re gone

I THINK I NEED SLEEP

(by Charlotte Caffey, Anna Waronker, and Jane Wiedlin © 2001 Juneblake Songs c/o Terrorbird Tracks)

Your curse has claimed me

And this condition plagues me too

Obsessed, re- and depressed

Can't we leave these feelings unexpressed?

And I think I need sleep

Maybe then, then I could think

If I could just sleep

But every time that I do, I just dream

I dream about you, it's a nightmare coming true

Every time that I sleep, I dream about you

Your the hammer that's falling

You are the tripping, tapping time

Insane and deranged

No easy words that could explain

And I think I need sleep

Maybe then, then I could think

If I could just sleep

But every time that I do, I just dream

I dream about you, it's a nightmare coming true

Every time that I sleep, I dream about you

I avoid the bed you're in

My head it feels so bad

I need peace, there's no release

I think I'm going mad

And I think I need sleep

Maybe then, then I could think

If I could just sleep

But every time that I do, I just dream

I dream about you, it's a nightmare coming true

Every time that I sleep, I dream about you

It's a nightmare coming true, every time that I sleep

I dream about you

LISTEN TO THE BAND

(by Michael Nesmith © 1969 Screen Gems-EMI Music Inc.)

Hey, hey, mercy woman

Plays a song and no one listens

I need help,

I’m falling again

Play the drum a little louder,

Tell me I can’t live without her,

If I only listened to the band

Weren’t the good, they made me happy

I think I can make it alone

 Oh, mercy woman

Plays a song and no one listens

I need help I’m falling again

Play the drum a little bit louder,

Tell them they can live without her

If they only listened to the band

Weren’t the good, they made me happy

I think I can make it alone

 Oh, woman

plays a song and no one listens

I need help I’m falling again

Come on, play the drums just a little bit louder

Tell us we can live without her

Now that we have listened to the band

CATAPULT

(by Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills, and Michael Stipe © 1983 Universal Tunes, o/b/o Night Garden Music )

Oh, we were little boys

Oh, we were little girls

It's nine o'clock, don't try to turn it off

Coward in a hole, ugly mouth

A question...

Did we miss anything?

Did we miss anything?

Did we miss anything?

Did we miss anything?

Catapult! (catapult)

Catapult!

Catapult! (catapult)

Catapult!

Oh, we were little boys

Oh, we were little girls

It's nine o'clock, don't try to turn it off

oward in a hole, ugly mouth

We in step, in hand

Your mother remembers this

Hear the howl of the road

A question...

Did we miss anything?

Did we miss anything?

Did we miss anything?

Did we miss anything?

Catapult! (catapult)

Catapult!

Catapult! (catapult)

Catapult!

Porch, could be darker

Much, could be darker

Oh, we were little boys

Oh, we were little girls

It's nine o'clock, don't try to turn it off

Coward in a hole, ugly mouth

We in step, in hand

Your mother remembers this

Hear the howl of the road

A question...

Did we miss anything?

Did we miss anything?

Did we miss anything?

Did we miss anything?

Catapult! (catapult)

Catapult!

Catapult! (catapult)

Catapult!

LIGHTNIN' NEVER STRIKES TWICE

(by Rick Price and Mike Taylor © 1970 Chapell and Co.)

Let the wind blow you out of my memory

Let the rain wash you out of my eyes

Too many bad times loving

you Now I gotta realize

That I can throw you right out of my mind

And put you right back in your place

Cos lighting never strikes twice in the same place

I can live without loving you

Carry on in the same old way

Do anything that I wanna do

Say what I wanna say

Cos, I can throw you right out of my mind

And put you right back in your place

Cos lightning never strikes twice in the same place

Your kind of woman just drags me down

Wanna put on a ball and chain

I was king ti’l you took my crown

Wanna win it back again

Cos, I can throw you right out of my mind

And put you right back in your place

Cos lightning never strikes twice in the same place

RADIO WAVES

(words & music: Rob Hermanowski ©2022 Kalion Music)

In the clamor and the noise of living

We would hear them in the sounds

We used to make

Radio waves

When our wounded hearts inspired misgiving

We would turn to them to stop

The final break

Radio waves

What we knew though we couldn’t say

Turn the dial and discover the way

To survive

Melody was the meaning of our lives

If you find that you should need forgiving

Tune them in, turn it up

And re-awake

Radio waves

What we knew though we couldn’t say

Turn the dial and discover the way

To survive

Melody was the meaning of our lives

Those sounds we used to make

Tune in and re-awake

Melody is meaning

Radio waves
